SHOW OFSTED THE DOOR!
SECURITY AND SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE
AVOID THE FENCING FRENZY
When Oftsed placed two Cumbrian schools in Special Measures last year over site security issues, the media in the North West reported a “fencing frenzy” as wary governors strove to head off an inspectors’ reprimand. “The strong leadership of the headteacher and her team, the clear vision of the governors,” wrote one Chair, ”are as nothing compared with the school’s lack of a perimeter fence and locks on the doors.” (Newsquest, 2017)
Is this an overreaction? Figures released under the Freedom of Information Act reveal a 50% rise in incidents at UK schools between 2014 and 2016, with police being called on-site over 700 times (TES, 2017). One in 20 teaching assistants has already faced violence from a parent, according to a 2016 UNISON survey.
Warrior Doors recommend interlocking security door systems to all schools. These are twin doors working in tandem to create a safe space “airlock” for each building. By simplifying gatekeeping, the admin team has more time to attend to school business, and the school is a safer place for everyone.
WHAT’S SO GOOD ABOUT INTERLOCKING DOORS?
Interlocking security doors are electronically-operated, impact resistant entrance doors which are secure by default yet open automatically in an emergency.
Interlocking outer doors can remain open, to welcome parents during high-turnover periods, such as the late-to-registration scramble or school trip day. In this case the inner door remains secured by resilient deadlock mechanisms behind the bolts at all times, keeping your building fully secure.
With both doors locked, your admin team have the time and opportunity to vet all prospective entrants to the school, withholding access when necessary. Legitimate school visitors can be quickly buzzed in, while others can be placed under extra scrutiny. If school access is declined, intruders have no option but to leave the site.
WHY CHOOSE WARRIOR INTERLOCKING DOORS?
Warrior interlocking systems are practical, attractive and reliable; we draw from twenty years of experience building for a range of clients.
WARRIOR BUILD FOR REAL-LIFE SITUATIONS
Warrior design our doors to shrug off the real-life wear and tear of a busy lobby area. We fit a full-length hinge as standard to ensure your door won’t droop or sag in the frame. Each door is designed to offer robust resistance to a prolonged period of attack. All the glass in a Warrior door is tested and certified to LPS 1270 as standard.
WARRIOR BUILDS OUT THE “FORTRESS MENTALITY”
A well-lit lobby welcomes children and parents and allows staff maximum visibility for security observations. This is why we maximise the use of high-security, impact-resistant glass which floods in natural light. All our construction is accomplished without visible welds, so your school needn’t look like a fortress to be safe and secure.
