Brownhills Police Safety House

Overview

At Brownhills, Walsall, West Midlands Police have created the UK’s first Safety House – where premium security products are demonstrated and good practice shown within a real-life residential setting. Led by their Crime Reduction Officer the events consist of an informal talk about home safety (which is not all doom and gloom as the approach they adopt is one that is decidedly light hearted). The event lasts for about two hours and takes place right next door to the Brownhills Police Station on the Chester Road North, Brownhills.

Who are West Midlands Police

The Safety House itself is a building that has been styled in the form of a residential home; within the house there are demonstrations of how a home can be made more secure. This includes upgraded features such as new PVC doors, windows and alarms – each of which have been police approved.

Situation

The initiative of this project is to drive down burglary rates by illustrating the highest security measures and encouraging residents to think like a burglar!

Task

Warrior Doors have been chosen to be involved within the project due to our reputation for superior security doors that protect businesses and social housing communities. Although Warrior Doors don’t supply security solutions for domestic use, our doors were used to illustrate best practice security.

Action

Our security doors have been supplied and fitted to the rear of the Safety House, free of charge, as a sign of our support for such an important initiative.

Result

“The Safety House will now become a centre for best practice throughout the Walsall Borough. The public and partner agencies attend crime prevention inputs at the house which means vital crime prevention messages can be fed down to their customers and clients.

Hopefully these inputs will influence buying decisions to purchase the best equipment and ensure their property and belongings are safe”.

– PC Darren Robbins, Crime Reduction Officer for Walsall
